All data is de-duplicated and compressed before leaving site. De-duplication happens in a two stage process. Stage one (first cut), the agent protecting the production server takes a light incremental to move the new blocks quickly from the production host to the local Core. This complete the backup of the local production server in seconds. Stage two (second cut), the local Core then applies robust global de-duplication at the block level to the incoming image, to further shrink the backup as small as it can technologically be taken. These remaining blocks, which are unique to the history of every device in the entire environment are what make up the generation, and are eventually replicated off site or archived.
