Archival automatically migrates older history to lower cost storage or public cloud.

The Metiix Virtual SmartArchive feature enables long-term data retention for SLA and regulatory compliance. The backup archives belonging to the source Core (local Core) or a target replica Core (2nd Core) can be migrated to removable media or public cloud. It is internally optimized and all data in the archive is de-duplicated, compressed, and encrypted. The archive can be spread across multiple devices based on the available space on the media and it can be locked with a pass phrase. Recovery from an archive does not require a new Core. Any core can ingest the archive and recover data as long as the administrator has the pass phrase and the encryption keys.

Archiving can be a scheduled or manual task and may be performed at any time. The major benefit of archiving is not only to have  second or third copy of the data available, but to keep the Cores lean and conserve disk space. Keeping only the most relevant data on the Cores. Drastically cutting down data maintenance time and disk costs.

Archives may be pushed to locally attached disk, Network storage, or directly to public clouds; including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, RackSpace, or OpenStack.
